The number of Scarlet Macaws are declining due to deforestation. With only 20,000 - 50,000 left in the wild they are on the list of endangered animals. Even though their population is declining globally, according to the Mexican Daily Post, the population is on the rebound in Mexico. This beautiful species is being carefully reintroduced into their natural habitat as part of a decades-long conservation project. We hope the success of this project continues and we will do our part to spread awareness.
Scarlet Macaws are fascinating birds - and one of the most recognizable species on the planet because of their beautiful red, yellow, blue, and green plumage and ability to learn words and perform tricks. It is the national bird of Honduras but can be found across South and Central America and the Caribbean in southeastern Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Bolivia, Venezuela, Brazil, Trinidad, the Pacific Island Coiba, and Honduras. Their bold colors, interesting personalities, and wide range in Latin America made them a perfect choice for our Mentes Ambiciosas logo.
